How We Got Here

Before founding DocBernard Computing, I earned a doctoral degree in Genetics & Molecular Biology and worked as a geneticist in a research laboratory. During that time, I decided that I wanted to get back into PC gaming. Throughout my entire life, I’d always had a fascination with the latest thing in tech, video production, and gaming. I didn’t feel like I had the time to invest in building myself a PC and decided to order from one of the couple giant, corporate monstrosities that pass themselves off as creators of gaming PCs. As you might be able to tell, my experience buying from HopelessPoo corporation didn’t go well. I paid a lot of money for a computer that never lived up the performance that was advertised.

After about six months of endless disappointment with my new HopelessPoo corporation PC, I decided enough was enough. Despite being a full time geneticist, I would start researching what was the newest and best in PC building and do it myself. In just a couple of months of researching and waiting for a new generation of CPUs to launch, I was ready to order my parts and build a new PC. Oh man am I ever glad I took the time to build my own PC!  Instead of fulfilling my daily ritual of cursing at my PooBox PC while trying to do anything with it, I was now sitting back gaming in 4k on the best computer I had ever had. I realized that it wasn’t that new hardware couldn’t live up to my expectations, it was that I had been sold poor quality crap for a boat load of money. I was overtaken by anger seeing the contrast between what I had been led to expect from HopelessPoo and what I actually received. Now that I was free from HopelessPoo Corp and was enjoying the computer I built myself, I was getting the experience I had hoped to have so many months ago.

I knew that I was not alone in suffering with the poor products of a  gigantic, multinational corporation. Thinking of myself and the many others that have had equally awful experiences, I wanted more people to have a computer like the one that I was able to build. I also wanted fewer people to suffer the consequence of trusting corporate reputation when no quality backs it up. I had the privilege of time, money, skills, and resources to research and learn about the PC building world. Not everyone should have to make PC building into a hobby just so they can get a working PC.

These experiences and what I learned through them serve as the foundation of DocBernard Computing.
